Russia are the new World Team Champions!
The celebrations have only just started and don’t expect them to finish any time soon. After five years of trying, the hosts Russia have finally managed to win the ITF Beach Tennis World Team Championship after overcoming Italy in a final that will be remembered for a while.
There were jubilant scenes as Russia finally managed to claim victory as Burmakin and Churakova were mobbed at the conclusion of the mixed-doubles match by their teammates and members of the Russian Tennis Federation, who have provided excellent support to help beach tennis grow in the country.
"It is a reward for our country and for everything that we have done as a team and individually to develop beach tennis both at home and abroad. This event that is held in Moscow is in my opinion one of the best organized events on the beach tennis tour. Finally this year we have managed to win it," Burmakin concluded.

Championship returns to Russia for fifth successive year
The ITF and Russian Tennis Federation have announced the ITF Beach Tennis World Team Championship will be returning to Russia’s National Tennis Centre in Moscow.
Last year’s event saw 28 nations compete for the title, with Italy pushed all the way against hosts and first-time finalists Russia before coming out on top after a closely fought decisive mixed match. As a result, Italy became the first nation to successfully defend the title and brought its own tally of World Championship titles to three.
This year’s event, to be held on 12-17 July, is not only expected to see an increase in nations, but will also see the return of the junior team competition. Launched in 2015, the junior competition for 14 & under beach tennis players provides international team competition for the younger generation.

About the event
The Beach Tennis World Team Championship is a mixed competition in which nations compete against each other as a team. Each team is comprised of two men and two women, with ties consisting of a men’s doubles, women’s doubles and a mixed doubles match.
The ITF signed a two-year deal with the Russian Tennis Federation to host the Tour's flagship team competition in 2015 and 2016. The 2015 championship was the first to feature a junior event introducing a new generation to team competition.
