Tournament Round-up

Italy reminded the rest of Europe that its beach tennis players are still very much the ones to beat after Italian teams won all six titles at the European Beach Tennis Championships in the seaside resort of Sozopol in Bulgaria.

2016 also saw Junior events taking place for the first time and Italy’s boys and girls proved that the future of Italian beach tennis is in good hands as all three events ended with Italian champions.

Tournament Preview

The 2016 European Beach Tennis Championships will be held in Bulgaria having originally been scheduled for Antalya, Turkey.

Taking place in early September, the leading players from European nations will compete for the much sought after title which has been dominated by the players from Italy over the years.

2015 saw the first non-Italian champions crowned in the mixed-doubles event following the success of the Russian duo Burmakin and Churakova so could 2016 see the men's and/or women's titles wrestled away from the grasp of the Italians?

The European Beach Tennis Championships, organised by Tennis Europe, is one of four major Championships to feature on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour calendar.

Tournament Notes

Tennis Europe announced the tournament was moved from Turkey to Bulgaria due to the current security situation in Turkey.
