Tournament Round-up

Luca Cramarossa and Marco Garavini made a successful defence of their European title with the second seeded Italian pairing not dropping a set and secured another title with a close 76(7) 64 defeat of top seeds and world champions Michele Cappelletti and Luca Carli in the final.

There was also success for the second seeds in the women's event where Federica Bacchetta and Giulia Gasparri brought an end to the reign of Sofia Cimatti and Flaminia Daina. The 2016 champs had been in impressive form coming into the final but were unable to keep their hands on the trophy going down 64 46 76(5) to their fellow Italians who now add the European crown to their world title.

Bacchetta and Garavini also teamed up to claim the mixed doubles title meaning that the second seeds in all three pro events emerged victorius at the expense of the number one seeds.

In the junior events, the titles went to G. Attolini & M. Spoto (boys doubles), G. Trippa & N. Valentini (girls doubles) and G. Attolino & N. Valentini (mixed doubles)

Tournament Preview

Players from newly crowned World Team Champions Italy will once again be amongst those heavily favoured to take the title but they can certainly expect some stiff competition in 2017, particularly from the Russians who themselves took the World Team title in 2016.

2017 will also see Junior events making a return with the players looking to build upon the successful introduction last year.

Tournament Notes

Sozopol to host for second consecutive year and will once again hold a junior event alongside the pro event following its successful debut in 2016.
